New Staff: Mr. Hundley

With a job opening in the English department, Matthew Hundley jumped on the opportunity to apply for the teaching position. His wife has already worked in the district for three years and has loved it, so applying for a position in Eudora seemed natural.

“We’ve known about the community of Eudora for years and just have really always liked it,” Mr. Hundley said. “I mean everything from just the way the community responds to you, the things the school has to offer, and just the proximity that Kansas City has. I mean, there’s nothing we don’t like about it.”

Entering his 31st year of teaching, Mr. Hundley is excited for the new school year and new responsibilities. At the past three schools he’s taught at, he has been a football coach, but has decided not to continue that at Eudora. Instead, he has gone a new route: debate and forensics.

“I’ve always taught English classes,” Mr. Hundley said. “I did teach a speech class for five or six years, but actually being a debate and forensics coach where we’re doing competitions, that’s brand new. So brand new I’m learning on the fly.”

Along with coaching debate and forensics, Mr. Hundley is also teaching a sophomore honors English class, a junior English class and two senior English classes. Aside from teaching, though, Mr. Hundley enjoys numerous hobbies.

“Well, you know, you can’t really tell by looking at me, but I like to work out. It’s just I also like to eat, even maybe a little bit more,” Hundley said. “I like to eat, spend time with my family, I like to ride bikes, and I really like to watch TV and movies too.”

Some of his favorite movies include “Moneyball” with Brad Pitt and various comedy movies with Jim Carrey. He also enjoys watching TV shows on Netflix and watching college football, specifically KU.

Mr. Hundley is not only excited for the upcoming football games and new releases on Netflix, but also for the coming year at Eudora High School. He is looking forward to new experiences, memories and the years to come.
