Not far from his hometown, Tonganoxie, Clayton Neas takes on the opportunity to join the Eudora High School district. Coming from Turner High School as the strength, football, and powerlifting coach, Mr. Neas had always been familiar with the community.
“I’ve been here before for track and sports games; I’ve always liked the community feel and how the kids interact with each other,” Neas said.
A community is often judged by first impressions. Luckily, Neas was already knowledgeable on the Eudora community from a personal connection, his wife, Courtney Neas, who is a kindergarten teacher at Eudora Elementary School.
Although Neas went to Emporia State for track, he plans to use his knowledge and experiences to contribute to the football program as the defensive-end coach.
“I hope to give back to the community through ways like coaching the football team and showing support at different sporting events,” Neas said.
Adjusting to a new school culture can be a long process. However, Neas feels comfortable within the community. He compares Eudora to his hometown.
“I can tell Eudora has a tight family aspect; everyone respects each other. It’s very similar to where I grew up,” Neas said.
The new school year holds endless opportunities and potential. Neas is specifically looking forward to a new routine and settling in.
“Meeting new people and getting to know the kids more while getting comfortable is definitely what I’m looking forward to,” Neas said.
