“Love Island” is an American dating reality TV show. Islanders (people who are on the show) sleep, eat and shower in a villa in Fiji for almost two months. Cameras are constantly rolling, and islanders have no privacy. They have no phones, no clocks, no music and no access to the outside world. Girls and boys contest in games, test their loyalty and experience heartbreaking disloyalty or love from what they consider their best friends and their partners. As islanders couple up with others, islanders who can’t form a bond with someone else or don’t get picked, get sent home, which is often emotional and intense for the islanders. New Islanders that join replace them.
2025’s season seven opens with Huda, Chelly, Bella-A, Olandria, Sierra, Ace, Jeremiah, Nic and Charlie. This season received the most backlash from any other season. It was put together horribly with no time pace, and production clearly didn’t do their research on certain islanders. As the season progresses, viewers dig up old tweets, reposts, likes, and comments that were usually racist that the islanders had. One that was pivotal was Sierra getting kicked off in the middle of the show for an Instagram post that resurfaced of her saying a very offensive slur.
Other than the cast, the audience was also a crucial part of why the season was so horrible. Some of the audience tried to hold people accountable, but were just as awful as they were. One example of poor taste was they edited Olandria’s face onto George Floyd with the caption“I can’t breathe. There was so much hate that, for the first time in seven seasons, the producers included a suicide and bullying awareness statement in their episode. Islanders obviously didn’t see or know what was going on, but it took a toll on them afterwards.
The last four couples for the finale, Pepe and Iris, Huda and Chris, Olandria and Nic, and Amaya and Bryan, mostly ended in heartbreak. Videos of Pepe cheating on Iris appeared on TMZ, and they have since separated. Huda and Chris were done the day of the finale, and are now enemies outside of the show. Olandria and Nic are the last standing couple, but personally, their whole relationship is fake and for PR. They show no signs of affection but do many brand deals together. The winners, Amaya Papaya and Bryan, have also separated. Most people think Bryan only coupled up with Amaya because she was the fan favorite, and he proved everyone correct. This season was disappointing and unsuccessful, full of lustful and fake relationships/friendships.
