If you’re looking for a good movie to watch with the family, “Freakier Friday,” the sequel to “Freaky Friday”, is what you need. Directed by Mark Waters, the same man who directed the 2003 film.
You’ve all probably seen Freaky Friday, and if you liked it, Freakier Friday will be a good watch. The plot was pretty good, maybe a little cheesy, but that was expected. It was, however, confusing at times. When they all switched bodies, it was hard to tell who was who. I also felt like the psychic was kind of out of nowhere and didn’t add much; it was like they were just trying to find something to fill the time.
The movie was a decent length with a running time of 1 hour and 51 minutes. The end might’ve been a little dragged on; there were some scenes that lingered on for more than they should. I didn’t get bored, but some of it seemed unnecessary. That being said, it’s a normal length compared to other movies running at the theater. I thought it was well filmed and had good acting. The special effects weren’t overdone, which could make or break the movie.
It’s the kind of movie you’ll probably only see once, which is fine. It made a lot of references to the original; maybe it was a little overdone, but it was a nice way to honor it.
I feel like it was pretty realistic, aside from the switching bodies, of course. The relationship between Tess and Anna seemed like a good evolution from the first movie, while the relationship between Anna and Harper was accurate to how a lot of teens would act.
You could really tell the cast enjoyed working together on the film, and it brought a positive atmosphere to the screen. They brought back a lot of the original cast, Lindsay Lohan as Anna, and Jamie Lee Curtis as Tess are the most notable. They also had a newer cast, including Julia Butters as Harper and Sophia Hammons as Lily. This made it feel like it wasn’t trying to be something entirely new, and it didn’t feel like a careless remake, although I don’t think you would necessarily need to watch Freaky Friday first to enjoy Freakier Friday. It doesn’t rely too much on the original and has its own story to tell. You might miss some of the references, but you’d still be able to have a good time watching.
Overall, I enjoyed watching Freakier Friday, and if you’re looking for something to put on, you should go for it. This movie isn’t for everyone, but you’ll definitely have a good laugh. For what it is, I’d rate this movie three and a half stars out of five. It seems that the audience agrees, giving it a four out of five.
